Our organisation
Alzheimer’s Research UK is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We are governed by a Board of Trustees, the Charity’s board of directors.
The Board’s role is to set the Charity’s strategic direction. The Board monitors the delivery of the Charity’s objectives, upholds its values and governance, and advises and supports the Chief Executive, who leads the Executive Management Team towards achieving the Charity’s vision and purpose.
The Board of Trustees meets five times a year. Sub-committees of Trustees and staff report on Audit and Risk, Nominations and Governance, Investment and Legacy.
Alzheimer’s Research UK undertakes all of its charitable and fundraising activities with no bias in regard to political affiliation or religion.
Our vision
Our vision is a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.
Without effective treatments, one in three children born today will die with dementia. Today, there are no dementia survivors but research can change this.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by our passionate scientists and supporters, we’re challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field and funding the innovative science that will deliver a cure.
Our mission is to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025

About our research
From our first research project in 1998, we have now committed over £171 million of funding for ground-breaking dementia research.
We have focussed our efforts into four key areas.
Understand
We fund world class researchers to unpick the complexities of the diseases that cause dementia.
Diagnose
We work at the forefront of technology and spearhead new initiatives to ensure an earlier and more accurate diagnosis for everyone living with dementia.
Reduce risk
We are driving projects that will accelerate the science of dementia risk and empower people to make informed decisions about steps they can take to keep their brains healthy.
Treat
We are collaborating with scientists, clinicians and pharmaceutical companies to translate breakthroughs in the lab into life-changing treatments for people living with dementia.
